Bangali der Pujo-Parbon : "Serar - Sera"


·  Reason for doing Durga Puja - Durga Puja festival marks the victory of Goddess Durga  over the evil buffalo demon Mahishasura. It symbolises Good over Evil.In the Ramayana,it was told that when there was a fight between God  Rama and Ravana ,Lord Ram invokes the goddess Durga in his battle against Ravana. Although Devi Durga is generally worshipped during the spring time i.e. BASANTI PUJO but due to battle, Rama had to invoke her in the autumn which is generally called as “Akaal Bodhan”. 

·  Reason for doing Kali Puja - Goddess Kali is seen as the loving and caring Mother who destroys all the negative energies surrounding her devotees. She eradicates all impurities, negativities and darkness within her devotees. By worshipping Goddess Kali, the devotee believe that they will be free from all kinds of evil.

· Reason for doing Saraswati PujaTo make us understand that we should always be able to differentiate between the good and the bad. To celebrate Saraswati Puja is to celebrate education. Hence, this festival is celebrated in almost every household – to allow education in household.

· Reason for doing Jagaddhatri Puja - It is believed that if She is not there, then the world would fall down. In Puran it was mentioned that , the devatas became happy and proud after the victory of Maa Durga over Mahisasura. Then Lord Brahma took the avatar of Yaksha to control the rising ego of the Devatas. Yaksha placed a blade of grass. Yaksha asked them to move or burn the grass. Starting from Vayu (God of Wind) to Agni (God of Fire), one by one, all the Gods failed to move or burn the grass. This is the supreme power as protecting mother, holds the entire creation and is therefore called Jagadhatri. 

· Reason for doing Lakshmi Puja - Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth and prosperity  for maintenance and progress in our life. It also signifies the knowledge, skills and talents. She is the Shakti that directs you  to fulfil  the goal of your life. The other two hands hold mudras symbolizing the shower of blessings and indicating that we should have patience.

· Reason for doing Makar Sankranti -  It is believed that person who scarifies his body (dies) in Uttarayan get a position in ‘Krishna Lok’. That person gets liberation, whereas, the one who dies in Dakhshinayan, has to be reborn.

· Reason for doing Janmashtami Puja - Janmashtami means to encourage the good and destroying the evil. Lord Krishna, the Hindu deity is considered as the most powerful human incarnations of Lord Vishnu. People believe that whenever there is darkness or any major problem on Earth, then Lord Krishna takes birth and removes all evil. 

· Reason for doing Maha Shivratri – Worship of Lord Shiva on a Shivaratri it is believed that worship of Lord Shiva with devotion and sincerity absolves a devotee of past sins. Married and unmarried women observe fast and perform Shiva Puja.Married women pray for  marital long life and prosperous married life. Unmarried women also pray for a husband like Lord Shiva.

· Reason for doing Vishwakarma Puja - Lord Vishwakarma alone is the creator of all universe and the things within, therefor to offer worship and thankfulness to him on the Vishwakarma day.

· Reason for doing Charak Puja - The tradition of Charak Puja is all about worshipping the Charak tree . A deeper meaning is that Human life coexists with that of nature. It is believed that such acts actually functions as a near role reversal for men attempting to experience the pains of womanhood, including childbirth.

Reason for doing Neel Shashti - This puja is done by the married women folk to seek the blessings of the Lord for their husbands & children.
